  • Who/what inspired your toon?

Simple, just a fun forum where you post who/what inspired your character (if there is something)

    I'll start:

Tirania: Inspired/based off of Tira from soul calibur.

    Umogian:
Based off of Lateef Crowder mixed with a former character of mine from an old server.

    Cruven:
Not really inspired by anyone/thing, i just like playing Garagosians.
    My to-be toon:
    Shafiq Al-Mawt: Zakharan myrkulite.

    My tomb of old toons:
Cruven Schlachten - Blood Reaver of Garagos, Blackwood Company Elite, Hellstrom Head of Security
Marcus Waynard- Horned Harbinger, fear his best bud Frank!... and Jim, Bob, Sue, and Jane...
Davlamin Frostfoot - Frosty Snowflake, the Frozen Fist of Auril, sworn enemy of the Second Wind fire pit.

Kaizen = The Joker from the Dark Knight. Then as time went on I developed him into my own thing.

Peridan....well, didn't start out as much of anything. But when he joined the Legion, he certainly took on some Clint Eastwood characteristics.
      Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

      [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.

        Peri and his cigars! XD

Malaclypse's creation and development have had a number of weird influences over time; The Principia Discordia, V (moreso the comic than the film character), Taoism, Anarchist and Libertarian thought, Absurdist animal liberationism (if there is such a thing), Bugs Bunny, and circuses.

The only inspiration I can say I had was Melissa, who was inspired by the same artwork as my avatar. As with all of my characters, I let her backstory and personality grow over time.

I would say who Setsune is based on, but it would completely spoil the mystery of what's going on inside that head of hers.

I got over excited and wrote to much.... Oops.

Eira Skald – Inspired by pretty much every folk-lore ice queen story there is, in particular The Snow Queen. She’s also got a mish-mash of other things melted into her; Once Were Warriors was an influence, helping me figure out her fanaticism. Her somewhat long back story was a result of having a 2hr each way train commute.

Karsten Mannerheim – Formed by a lot of Victoriana that I was reading at the time, most notably Dorian Gray – Though more for the social interaction than any character. The idea of an assassin, rather than a specialised rogue, being a bored noble who’s dabbled with lessons in the appropriate subjects (Anatomy, fencing, arcanery, social graces, etc) appealed.

Kaleva Dan Hapsten– Started out as a cheesy noir style detective, gradually expanded to become a lot more than the original ‘He’s a hard bitten ex-cop with a secret identity, She’s an incorporeal spirit, fused to him for eternity. Together: They Fight Crime!’ one liner he came from.

Alexander Dias– Came out of planning a trip to Venice, and wanting a crafter in Team Brogue. Rich, naïve, intelligent – Inspired by a few mafia stories, and an odd book called Provander Gleed (mostly his background in a mafia-esq family) and by a personal hatred of how most constructs are depicted – He was my answer to that, and has firmly cemented the idea of ornate gilded and enamelled constructs, and the idea of specially treated enamels and ceramics being good protection against magic in my head.

Harry “Flash” Champion – An attempt at combining parts of; Leslie Phillips, Terry Thomas and Alistair Sim, together with a dash of; Blackadder, Toby Frost’s ‘Space Captain Smith’ and George Macdonald Fraser’s Flashman.

Vincent Hopkins – Cleanse it with Fire! A long long time ago I discussed the idea of having a religious zealot / witchhunter of Kossuth, charging around hitting mages with massive columns of god’s holy fire. Vincent was the (belated) result. I’ve always seen Sundren as something of a low-magic setting, the kind of place where magic scares the bejeesus out of commoners most of the time and is treated with suspicion and mistrust by most (and that’s standard wizards, Sorcerers are worse and Warlocks… Well, just burn those no questions asked). Great fun to play, but unfortunately quite hard when every 3rd character is an arcane magic user or has impure blood – Impressively for a non-evil character he’s made more enemies in 3 months, than the vicious and evil ice-bitch of Auril ever did.

Named after Vincent Price, playing Matthew Hopkins: WitchFinder General; inspired by both and pretty much every other witchfinder cliché you can think of.
            Eira Skald - Icy bitch.
Karsten Mannerheim - Idealist and murderer.
Vincent Hopkins - Witch Hunter and man of faith.
Aedan Gilter - Dreamer of broken dreams.
Henry L. Jones - Oh god, I can see forever.

Oddly enough, with all the multitude of toons I play, I can't think of any that were based on popular fiction characters. Closest I have on any:

Ronon: His attitude and demeanor is pretty close to Batman (Frank Miller version) than anything. Maybe the Shadow (minus the maniacal laughter and guns).

Talvalin: Well...um...just about any cheerfully grumpy old fart of a combat veteran. Nick Fury (old-school...think Howlin' Commandoes era) is a pretty close match.

Jakomyn: No one in particular. Just sounded fun to play Calishite rogue/mage.

Ursus: No idea. Wrote the bio and tried to make his personality fit into it.
Ursus Ahrahl: Vengeful Desert Warrior (http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.php?title=Ursus_Ahrahl)
              Zaphram Babblerocks: Silly Gnome Tinkerer
Ronon Darkholme: Eye and ear of the Night Watch of Kelemvor's Eternal Order (http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.ph...onon_Darkholme)
Jakomyn Moriarty: Misunderstood Calishite mage (http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.php?title=Jakomyn_Moriarty)
Turin Greyhold: Ex-mercenary paladin of Torm (http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.ph...reyhold,_Turin)
Alexandros Pentacost: 1/2 Orc Cleric of the Red Knight
"Remember, Private..Friendly Fire is not a nice warm place you and your hippy buddies sit around at night toasting marshmallows and singing Kumbaya." --Me to one of my troops way back when

All my characters are based on Milla Jovovich's portrayal of Jeanne d'Arc. Even the male ones.

Peligiri ~ Based on Artemis Entreri despite the obvious alignment difference. I think Artemis is a good guy at heart!

Falmari ~ Based on my myself, wise - stupid but clever. A mix of bad decisions and cruely cunning insight!

Llarar Baladas ~ Based on the lich Larloch; intelligent and wise yet has a sense of duty and obediance that is self serving as well as aiding balance - a paradox of faiths if you will?!

Zorien Rhys was based from Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy 8 in terms of attitude, and the Artful Dodger (From Oliver - not the DJ) mixed in a strange mish-mash of confidence and apathy.

Delira the NPC was based on the seeress from David Eddings' Malloreon series of books.

No-one else had any real inspiration other than lots of thought and random strokes of creativity.
Lorlen Locke: "Amazing how the righteous commit acts of tyranny and terror almost as beautiful as our own under their banner of "good". We merely call a spade a spade."

"If you can't learn to do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly."

Its very strange... I dont think any of my chars that I based off of anyone. Usually, such as in Wills case, just how I would expect them to act. For Will a belligerent, bloodthirsty, incredibly cocky murdering idiot, unless you will turn to Talos. In that case he might not kill you. That about sums up how I thought a Favored Soul of Talos should act. ((Much harder to stick to than I had thought))
