Well my processor now gets a respectable 7.2 on the windows experience index, but what's really surprising is that my memory also jumped up quite some way when I re-assessed (In fact it jumped from 4.8 all the way up to 7.2 also!). Apparently my processor was also hindering my RAM somehow...

These computers will be the death of me!

I don't know how you're getting a 7.2 without a SSD. It's determined by your lowest subscore, a non SSD hardrive will never break 6. So your score should be much lower.

(( OOPs! I didn't notice the second page...lol this was in response to GodBeastX's on the last page ))

The next couple years should be AMD years...assuming trends hold.

There's nothing to indicate that. They've almost completely given up the performance segment to focus on their core product ( a smart move to avoid bankruptcy).

AMD is actually two companies now, their manufacturing side being a foundry company with over 50% being owned by a company based out of Dubai.

While ATI division has a strong offering as well for price/performance ratio, their current crown with DX11 generation cards will be short lived once the behemoth GTX 300 series comes out from nvidia.

I used to be die hard AMD and nvidia but frankly I'll go where the performance is... and right now that's still Intel/Nvidia.

I didn't say my overall index rating was 7.2, I said my processor rating and my RAM ratings are. Graphics gets a solid 6.8 on both measurements, and my HDD gets 5.9. Not bad for a day's work.

Now if only I could find a graphics driver that wasn't a piece of shit that crashes every 5 seconds.

In the desktop market, I agree that Intel is certainly the "faster" bet, my observations are based on the strides AMD has made this past year. They went from barely getting their quad-core out the door to launching their six-core Istanbul. Not bad for a company who was forced to release faulty quad-core chips as triple-core. :P

AMD/ATI certainly have some interesting choices to make...especially with all the hub-bub about CUDA and streaming processor acceleration within HPC....

OMG, in love I am. It's amazing how much faster everything is when it's astride a decent processor. All my other components seem to make all the more effort so they don't get outshined
