  • Bioware doesn't fail to impress..

    http://dragonage.bioware.com/sacred_ashes.html

They really give Blizzard a run for their money here... Excellent facial expression. And awesome action sequences! Definitely one of the best CGI cutscenes/intros/trailers I've seen to date.

Only would have liked a slightly different music style, but that's just a minor downer

I'll take Bioware over blizzard any day. Regardless just as I expected this game will not disappoint. I have the preorder to get the Blood Dragon armor in ME2 and Dragon Age
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Give blizzard a run for their money? What game has blizzard come out with since 2005? None?

I was talking about their games' CGI movies!

Blizzard is famous for those, but this one is at least as good.

Yeah that wasn't exactly in-game footage, and the lack of any multi-player mode on DragonAge is a big turn-off.

*gets his CGI - biatch on*

Comparing the older videos of Blizzard with the new Bioware stuff is hardly like for like - advances in software and technology have vastly increased the standard of models and rendering.
A few years ago GI renderers were slow and clunky, not to mention extremely expensive to license. These days thanks to the continued development of applications such as Zbrush and the inclusion of render engines such as Mental Ray (and more importantly for a lot of places the lowering in price of high end render engines such as Renderman) mean that lovely looking stuff is within reach of many.

I'd also pay strict attention to the differences between the Bliz/Bioware vids - (while I can't speak for the WoW stuff) the Bliz vids I remember have had differing levels of ambient/point lighting, while the Bio one takes place in a fairly uniform lighting environment (A good way of showing off models - a nice white light all around).

That aside, some lovely models, really nice textures and great animation - the fight and running has (for the most part, there is a little wire style flippery) a real feeling of mass.

My main issue would be the terrible female voice acting - I mean seriously it's bad enough to make Dick Van Dyke's English accent sound genuine.

                [/bitch]

I was comparing to the Starcraft 2 and Wrath of the Lich King trailers. Which should be fair, in terms of technology.

Only places where WotLK really had an edge on this Dragon Age trailer were the music and the cleverly twisted interpretation of Terenas' words by Arthas, which gave that trailer a level of personality and familiarity that a Dragon Age trailer couldn't hope to achieve... as it still has to prove itself story wise. We haven't had any chance to get to know the characters bar what some of their trailers have shown, really.

Right but CGI aside the ingame graphics of all of Blizzard's Games were shit even for the time.

Hell even Diablo 3 looks rather visually unimpressive compared to current offerings.

The Dragon Age engine however is almost completely rebuilt from the ground up off of the base code of Aurora and will support DX10 in addition to 9.

DA's graphics have the most potential for matching the CGI over any other game at current with the exception being Crysis.

*shrugs* I have to admit to not particularly caring about pre-rendered graphics in trailers, although I am looking forward to playing the game. And you can complain about lack of multiplayer all you like, but that won't bother me when I'm relaxing on my couch playing it with surround sound and so forth... unless the game sucks that is, and by that I mean has a campaign of NWN2like shoddiness (I'm sorry, but it's true).

It looks very tempting, but i'll probably pass - Not because of lack of online features, but it has a few things that, upon first glance, it seems to be lacking. Knowing me, i'll probably get it a year after release or something O_O.

Anyway, the game that REALLY looks promising to me [ALso from bioware, so it SOOO FITS into the origional poster!] is Star Wars; The old Republic. Every update so far has only gotten me more excited for it ^-^. Even when they said "All sith warrior classes are apprentices to the emperor of the sith" or whatever, though that does bug me slightly O-o. They coulda added the roleplay aspect that MMORPGs seem to lack in a different way than throwing you up on that level.

Then again, if everyone is his' apprentice, i'm sure that each one of them is probably not very high up if there will be thousands XD

Edit: I liked Mask of the Betrayer's plotline/gameplay... but yeah, NWN2's plotline wasn't even good enough to finish :<
