  • Saulus' Core i7 Build

So for all those who are computer enthusiasts and are interested...

Heres my new system I just built:

    Core i7 920 (2.66 GHZ)
    Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooler
    Asus P6T Deluxe V2
    3 x 2 GB OCZ Platinum XTC DDR3-1600mhz 7-7-7-24
    EVGA Geforce GTX 295 1792MB GDDR3
Soundblaster X-fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion PCIE
    150GB WD VelociRaptor 10,000 RPM
    3 x 1.5TB WD Caviar in RAID5 (2.72TB Storage)
    Corsair Toughpower 650W

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7232
    Nvidia Forceware v 190.15 drivers

Haven't had free time to run benchies yet (or even OC, I want to try to hit 4GHZ), but here are the games I plan on posting some screens/benchmarks for:

    Crysis Warhead
    Company of Heroes
    World in Conflict
    Stalker: Clear Sky

Maevan is just jealous because he still shovels coal into his computer to power it.

Nice rig Saulus! Gotta say that some pretty nice stuff there! Just one curosity. Why the raptor instead of a velociraptor ? They usualy run similar prices and what not.

Sounds like you need to go back to PC basics .

RAID5 requires a minimum of three drives, two for striping, one for parity.

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID_5#RAID_5

And whoever says eww over an Asus board needs to get their head checked, if you look at the top 3DMark scores with the ~ $10,000 system builds, who do you think they use? Asus boards.

Never had to play with raid 5. That is why I asked did not recall, I knew parity was involved that was it.

Asus I have had bad luck with, and seen alot of HPs with asus. Plus I swear their moto is "We put things in stupid places". Plus have played hot potato with bad boards back and forth from manufactor. Have some fun stories of folks with asus boards too.

Not trying to knock the system just don't like that brand at all.

Never had a bad Asus board in the some 10-odd ones I've bought over the past 8 years, but maybe you get them shipped from a different plant.

Well.. I can say professionaly and personaly Asus> all .
I am coming to steal your computer btw Saulus thats once nice piece of hardware, time to trade the ol' Dual core up to an I7!

Ps: even 3d mark aside the sure reliability and cost of Asus boards have them stand over others. Just.. god help you if you have the nforce chipset, or a striker board:-)

PPS: The reason you may have seen cheap boards from the HP's is that they simply have asus produce the cheapist thing they can often for pre-fab computers. So you get very very sub normal quality from them where it would seem Saulus had his custom built

In 13+ years an countless mainboards I played Hot potato with their RMA department in DOA boards. West coast might get different, perhaps they pee on it first or something (fragile means bounce against wall then into cart). :P

MSI, Biostar, Gigabyte, Evga, have been great. The rest of the hardware would be something I would enjoy playing with.

Perhaps they have improved since I Dealt with them last, but like Soyo, Tayan, Pc-chips, and AMD. The experience I have had left me feeling like I got no lube.

Used to like Abit as well until VH6-II started dying after six months due to capacitors being crap.

Well gonna stop yabbering about hardware, been to long and seen to much....egg cartoon hd holder *shakes head* Q-tip in cdrom drive.....mainboard screwed directly to the case....GAH..
