  • Greetings! Advice for ranger?

"After a long journey, and a night's rest under a tree, Rakthar makes his way into town and the tavern. He figures that one night of asking around for advice could teach him more than a week of tracking the various critters in the surrounding the lands. As a ranger-in-training knowing what creatures to study and learn to defeat could make a huge difference in how successful his career is going to be."

Greeetings folks. This realm is surely something i would love to spend a little time on. I want to play what is mainly a ranger but i am worried that i will make mistakes with favored enemies because i dont know what i can expect to find. Perhaps a kind veteran could send me a PM with the best four or five monster types to focus on for higher levels. Id hate to train to battle goblins (for example) only to find a few levels later that there will be no more need to fight goblins.
A little advice would go a long way. If i need find this out IC (hopefully before i make too many choices ) could someone please leave a name for me of a character i could seek out?

    Thanks heaps!
Also... i must have signed up for the forums for here ages ago because ive been getting invites to come back. I ignored the first one but after that when i came back to NWN2 it made your realm one of the top ones on my list to come see. So, whoever's idea that was it has brought at least one player to try the place out!

    Well, welcome (back)
There is lots to do in Sundren, which you'll no doubt find out for yourself.

For favored enemies, all I'll answer to that is one hint in question form, because it would be more natural to develop your favored enemy list depending on the experiences of your character: what race is the single most common enemy for humanity to face?

As a side note, Sundren has only just adopted SoZ, and there are still some rather annoying bugs floating around. You'll want to avoid picking swashbuckler and the new SoZ feats for the time being, and at the starting intro scene you may need DM help to continue on if you get stuck. These issues are being dealt with, rest assured. All we ask is some patience

Seek out Peligir of Easthaven, he can show you the ropes a Ranger/(Custom PRC) Darkwood Stalker on the server!

Im friendly to be sure as well

I would take perhaps goblinoids, monstrous humanoids and humans as enemies. I of course have half orcs ands orcs as favoured cause of my class and it is of great help against the blood orcs in the Viridale!

Take Hide/Move Silently and Spot/Listen, people respect these type of skills on Sundren!

Its not all about powerbuilds as much as they would have you think by reading the forum

Its not a matter of respect its a matter of DMs actually make use of skills which is UBER COOL. So if you want to RP something better take skill points to suport being a lore master,Priest, Skillful mage or master theif.

Plus more int more languages which is always good. So if you Cleric has zero ranks in knowledge religion...YES we are snickering. :P

Yeah, I feel sorry for all the dumb ass clerics when you can be a ranger or druid or barbarian or pretty much anything else!

Doomguides and Hellfire Warlocks are restricted, just like Yuan-ti are.

Everything else is free game... for now!

If we see ridiculous amounts of dinosaur pets in ridiculous characters we WILL restrict them

Ummm...I think the wiki mentions that in order to be a cleric you. Must adhere to domains your deity has.

As for dinasuars....yeah they are cool and only reason that one henchmen did not get fed to one of many.

Hellfire is off limits unless you get to do a warlock which is off limits anyway. Or do you need okay to be a warlock and an okay to be a hellfire?

As for Yanti only if you could have the snake tail and such would they be cool. :P

doom guards are off limits too? hmm I guess someone saw em as powerful as I do..

Im somewhat new to NWN2 and have not played Sundren extensively, thus my advice is not exactly metagaming in the context of the server. However I would stress that I do wholly agree to go with what you think defines your character, that the dms will take note and reward accordingly is a very laudable feature of the server.

My long-time Ranger experience from the original game suggests three certain Favoured Enemies and two of worthwhile specialisation. The main three are almost always: Vermin, Undead and Giants. Typically in that order. The other two are somewhat more variable, I think Outsiders is a sound choice, as they are usually powerful beings that Ranger's might encounter deep within a labyrinth or ancient ruin. This leaves the last selection, it always depends..I lean towards Aberrations (Beholders for instance, which are best avoided), although Monstrous Humanoids, Orcs, Magical Beasts, Beasts are all valid too. Then there are Dragons.

((sadly i realised i wont be able to play until i get a copy of SoZ for Christmas. Im getting it as a gift from someone so cannot just go out and buy it. I'll spend some time and come up with a good character background while i am waiting. Sorry, but i will be in soon!))

Thats no problem; thinking up a unique and believable character that you are likely to enjoy playing is half the battle!
