  • Hello

I am new to RP and multiplayer in NWN2, I have played several MMOs so i have idea of what to expect however I am sure their are some differences hear so any advice is welcome

I'd say the biggest difference is the role play, it's a shift from... well.. none, to a whole lot. I have also played A LOT of MMO's. Also the community size is a big change.

    Welcome to Sundren.

Yeah.. I came here as both a first time RPer and a first time D&Der. Must say that it's great fun to play! As you may or may not know there are consequences for dying, so when adventuring you need to make sure you've got what you need!

      Hano's Adventuring Guide:

Tip #1: This one I learned the hard way through massive EXP loss - SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! It's hard to remember, but you won't regret it!

Tip #2: Healing kits and healing potions. Yeah, the bare neccesities of every game.

Tip #3: If you can't cast it or don't have a comrade that can cast the equivelant of, or a spell better than barkskin.. Stock up on potions of barkskin. They increase your performance by 23.4512451%, etc.

Tip #4: Potions of Invisibility. This item here can probably be the biggest utility potion out there. You'll want to keep a few of these on you for many reasons. One reason is during server crashes or for other various reasons you could get seperated by your party in a dungeon, cave, or encampment. This will let you safely journey back to your party without fear of being mauled by what's between you, so you can continue the adventure. People have been known to quaff one of these as well when situations get sticky and they need a quick escape.

These are the few things that I've come across since starting here.. Adventuring while staying alive requires you to test both you and your character's resourcefulness. Never a such thing as too careful here in Sundren.

The rest is up to you to learn how to play your character. Be sure to check the do's and don'ts of his class/race and if you have any questions or come across any problems, don't be afraid to ask.

Right click your character, find the Sundren menu, click it, and use the Find Other Player's function. It is the single biggest time-saver in all of NWN2 - you won't have to wander through all the areas looking for people to play with if you use this feature. It tells you where people are, and how many, and then you're all set to do whatever it is that you do.

Well thank you for the advice I genreally play casters and the best in this game I can find is a Wizard but i got my butt handed to me in about 4 out of 4fights So any combat advice for a wizard class would be helpful

A straight wizard should never fight, but instead support a group of warriors with enhancements like bulls strength, burning blade, mage armor, etc. Occasionally you can take on a few baddies solo if you can spam them fulla magic missiles before they close on you.

Now if you multi-class, you might be able to scrap in there with the fighters.

Recommend you don't start with a wizard as your first character.

Sundren has been designed with party-play in mind, and is not intended for solo'ing. This is done to encourage character interaction, and prevent excessive grinding for gold and experience. Some classes, such as Druids and Clerics, can solo regardless due to either half a dozen summons, or obscene PvE power, but even then it is difficult. You should always find a party before adventuring, and you'll be far better off. Also, with three members in a party, you get a bonus to XP gained.

In many cases I would agree. Although, Orrick can buff himself enough and has decent enough HP, to hold his own for a little while, and in some cases take on groups of monsters without help. Though without the buffs that wouldn't be possible.

This is untrue! My last character was a straight wizard (later EK) who used Melee for combat from day 1. But yeah, don't go solo, Sundren's not designed for that.

Yeah with ghostly visage, mirror image, mage armor, etc. my wizard was able to melee with a dagger from day 1. The idea is to give yourself more damage resistance than the goblins can really dish out, then your hp doesn't matter. Take some heal kits and potions though, cause if that thing drops in combat and you can't put up another one you will be screwed.
