  • Greetings and advice request.

    Hello there,

I'm excited to try this roleplaying server. Before I create my character and think up a concept I have to ask, what are the niches that exist on this server? What is common and what is not?

There is nothing I dislike more than creating a neat character then logging on to find out there are 3 dozen warlocks just like me. (A random example).

So what classes/races/alignments are common on this server? What do you think we need more of? I know that a lot of servers I have been on have an unsettlingly high population of evil selfish tyrant characters with no morals.

Now I love evil characters, but I also like even distributions. No sense in being an evil sod if everyone else is as well!

    Thank you!

Welcome to the community! I'm somewhat new to the server so take any advice I say with a grain of salt. From what I've seen there seems to be a good amount of both evil and good characters, so I guess if you want to be somewhat different you'd want to play a neutral character.

Race wise there doesn't seem to be many gnomes or half-elves, while human I would say are the most played. Class wise I haven't seen many monks, swashbucklers, or spirit shamens (unless I'm just mistaking them for druids). All the restricted race/classes are pretty rare so if you really want to be different winning the RPotM or the bio entry contest thing is your best bet. Hope that helps you out some and hope to see you in game. =)

As a long standing community member, I can say with confidence that there is no one particular alignment or class that perpetually dominates the server. There are influxes of different classes, sometimes the badguys become more active, sometimes the goodguys do. Rarer still are both active at the same time.

As for niches that are easy to get into; Triumverate, Legion, Blackhand, Black Tax. Those are the big four on the server and have always had a player presence in one way or another. The rest, are more like white noise. (No offense!)

I was thinking of a neutral "witch slayer" Van Helsing-esque sort of character, more bound to oath than black and white moralities or selfish/selfless pursuit.

Anyone know of any justification for a character like that, like a deity that would give purpose to that sort of character?

Hoar is a god of retribution and vengeance, could apply with many classes. Selune has a thing against werewolves, though those are rare. Azuth would have something against rogue spellcaster/shadowweave users, hence his ties to the Mage Killer prestige class.

Paladins oppose demons and undead - making Torm and Tyr likely picks. Cleric followers of Lathander can be Morninglords, and thus superb at facing undead. No shortage of outsiders and undead in Sundren.

Rangers can be made into specialized creature hunter, with a wide deity selection there. Giants, gnolls, orcs and goblinoids could be monsters focused on - orcs are common and powerful even at high levels. Humans could be the preferred pick for a bandit hunter, with half-elves and half-orcs coming second.

          Idea:
As Helm is Lawful Neutral and that his church has a significant law-enforcing presence in Sundren, a possibility for the witch hunter concept could be more broadly applied under the role of an 'inquisitor'. I don't think I've ever seen a lawful evil PC cleric of Helm so it could be a rather unique role, allowing for conflicts to occur with the people that 'round corners' or are more in the 'grey areas' of civilization (non-humans, vigilantes, militia, independant spellcasters, restricted races without permits, etc...) - such a character, backed and empowered to do what he does by the law, could be a handful to deal with (even by paladins in their own church, despite them being 'on the same side).
