  • New player/AFK?/Headsets?/Dead bodies?

Greetings to all, I have just begun checking out Sundren over the past few days and am enjoying what I've experienced so far, mostly! First, I should say that I am new to multi-player (not new to D&D or NWN1&2 however). Ok, I guess I'll get right to my questions-

#1 What is AFK? It appears to be a small dead zone where characters stand around unattended. I clicked the button, teleported there and found several unresponsive characters staring into the horizon. Maybe it should be obvious, but again, I'm new...

#2 Does anybody use headsets/mics to play here? I find typing to be pretty tedious while actually playing a game. I'm on steam and yahoo IM, but I'm curious as to who uses what and how it works.

#3 What are we supposed to do when we find a dead PC lying in a field somewhere? Is there any way to help them (assuming you want to?)

That's my first batch of questions, maybe I'll come up with a few more later...anyway, I like the content so far. This is much, much closer to tabletop RPGing than anything I've seen elsewhere.

hey man, welcome. afk means "away from keyboard" so if the phone rings i can put you in a safe place until you are ready to come back to the game.

mics go, im not sure if the whole or any of the community uses them, i would wager no.

dead guys layin around... my chars are all to weak and too poor to do anything about it. so i try not to worry about it.

Welcome to the server sir, it is good to see new players arriving, a new injection of brain matter into characters is always good news.

bipolar pretty much answered everything but i'll add a little here as well.

      1) As stated the afk room is for people who are not wishing to actively participate in roleplay, it is considered an ooc (out of character) spot where, as bipolar mentioned, a player can quickly jump to if they need to step away from the game for a moment but do not wish to simply log out (especially with the bioware community authentication server being down thus taking extra time to log back into the game). If you head to the afk zone do not expect much from anyone there as they are no longer in character.

2)There is a post elsewhere on this forum regarding voice communications, Saulus has provided a teamspeak 3 server for people to log into and chat, bare in mind that all mic conversations are considered 'ooc' any information that you may hear over voice chats should be considered as out of character knowledge and unless specifically told that your character should know certain things you hear then please act accordingly. The simple rule to follow is that what you, yourself know about the game world and the goings on around the server are not automatically what your character knows.

3)What you do with dead bodies is really up to your character. Some people play benevolent characters that would risk life and limb to help those in need, and as such would quite likely carry a dead body to a temple to see about paying for the body to be raised from the dead. Other people play less well inclined characters, and would likely just leave a body to rot or worse, perhaps randsoming off the dead body to the deceased persons friends.

What actions you take in any situation are up to you, just be aware that certain actions probably have concequences somewhere down the line.

Hope you enjoy your time in Sundren.

      All the best,
      Delexos.
Until I can somehow magically discover, hitherto unknown, skills to make a nice looking sig pic to represent my main chrs -

I primarily play Ignus Pyre and Smithy

And there are paladins who don't pay to have perfect strangers restored to life. Rather, they see to their proper burial and last rites, allowing their gods to judge them worthy or not. Because death is not an affliction to be cured of. (Or is it, vampires?! Or is it?!)

Thank you, bipolar bear and Delexos! That explains the "zombies" in AFK...I'll have to check into the teamspeak 3 server and see how that goes. I have enticed a couple friends to try out Sundren also; we should be on for an hour or two this evening. We all use Steam so the 3 of us will be teaming up/chatting through there.

I think it makes sense to be in chat with your own party, because basically it's more realistic. If I see something sneaking up behind my friend, I want to shout quickly as I'm throwing something or firing an arrow at it, not stand there like a dufus while typing "watch out behind you...oh, never mind, you're dead now". Being in chat with players outside your party doesn't make any sense to me though, unless there is some major sorcery involved.
