  • Howdy Neighbors!

    Hello folks,
Just came over to this server.. been playing NWN2 PW's for a bit, first time here. Going to try something new though, a rogue, ack! Any suggestions? going Rogue / Bard.. should be fun, yes... but never done it. Are halflings in FR similar to kender on dragonlance? trying to figure out the RP to this little guy haha.

    Welcome to Sundren

    Don't walk on the grass.

As for rogue builds, the best thing to do is start with your character first then circulate the build around that.

Regarding halflings, they typically get along well with most races with the exception of those that NOBODY really likes, such as orcs, drow, and the french. There are always exceptions, but halflings tend to perfer using their wits than blades to overcome a situation. They are not afraid of a challenge, are known for making some rather unique ales, and although they typically make shrewd traders and like a good share of coin, they often have simple pleasures.

These are just 'typical' behaviors though. With the exception of humans, halflings (or hins as they are known in Sundren as they feel short people deserve a short name) are perhaps the humanoid race with the most varying behavior patterns from individual to individual. One could be a fiendish assassin with 'mommy issues' that likes to stab people in their sleep; while another could be a saintly holy warrior that takes pleasure in reminding the big bad demons that they got their asses handed to them by a 3 1/2 foot 'little girl' with pigtails and chubby cheeks.

Once you have the most important element of rp figured out, think of your build afterwards. Many like to downplay the competent build idea (AKA 'powerbuilds'), but as long as you make rp your MAIN priority, there is nothing the matter with a build that is still competent. Just remember that on a server like this, those that can talk their way out of a situation will find themselves with as good a chance of survival, if not better, than that wicked badass with full +3 adamantine gear.

If your rogue is the talkative type, bards makes a good mix with them. The bard has Hide and Move Silently as class skills. Combined with decent gear and their Inspire Competence, you can make someone damn near impossible to spot. They have conversation skills as well. The only problem is their lack of skill for setting, spotting, and disabling traps. Of course rogue levels can likely handle that. Bards may be the princes of skills, but rogues are the kings.

If you want to make a silent killer for hire, there is always the assassin class. This could prove hard to set in motion though, as a would-be assassin cannot just go around with a sign that says "Will kill for food." Of course the road to your goal is half the fun of rp, right?

Shadowdancers are good for a more 'mysterious' rogue. In terms of build efficiency, they also provide an alternative method for getting Hide in Plain Sight without being evil. This skill alone should not be your main focus, but it's worth mentioning really.

And of course if all else fails, there is just the pure rogue. You'll have tons of skill points to spare and with all the interesting skills added to Sundren, that will be a good thing.

It is a good idea to do at least SOME planning before you dive on in. Study the class a bit, learn all the details, and work your class levels around your character concept and what you would like to be able to see them do effectively (be it kill, steal, or charm). Most importantly, do something you will have fun with. That's the reason we are all here after all. For further (and probably better) advice, consult a DM.
