  • Dual weilding exotic weapons

So I'm sure the question has crossed many minds, "Can you dual weild large/exotic weapons?"

I tried testing this out on single player, but I found that after I made my character and it had all 7 attacks with two scythes or two dwarven axes that when I returned the next day I lost all my offhand attacks and was stuck with only having 5 attacks.

Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know why this happened twice to me?

Monkey grip isnt too bad, however dual weilding two large weapons is just cwazy!! -6 to hit for both off and main hands is just way, way too much to even consider useful.

However, using monkey grip to weild a spear and shield isn't too shabby. I've seriously considered doing that with a druid build since, of course, NWN doesn't incluse short spears.

Maybe the devs can make short spears though...(take the regular spear design, make damage 1d6, give them monkey grip feat and an automatic +2 to attack to negate the penalty)

Hm... Fubar with huge weapon and shield? Looks nice...

Hm... Fubar and Frenzied Berserker? With Supreme Cleave and Improved Power Attack? That's... just bad.

Honestly, that's why I asked for High AC monsters in the other thread (edited in later) so that those using power attack don't 'auto-hit' for insane amounts of damage.

It says in the manual (not always the most reliable source) that you shouldn't be able to dual wield two large weapons. So no dual greatswords, great axes, etc.

Now, as to why the dwarven waraxes don't work, i don't know. Probalby an obsidian bug.

Yup, you can't. But Monkey Grip makes you treat weapons as one size smaller So in fact you're treated as holding two medium weapons

It's rather ridiculous with anthing besides large thrusting weapons and I'll never really be able to imagine someone being able to handle the momentum of two greatswords or greataxes without spinning out of control after two or three swings, but the game engine allows it.

I don't see what the point of monkey gripping with a tower shield is. Much better off using expertise, that way you get the 1.5 damage.

The problem is Monkey Grip is wrong on NWN2 The Feat is supposed to make the weapon work as one size class smaller, not to let you wield a large weapon in one hand.

The difference: it should let you wield a HUGE weapon with two hands too

Would this mean that medium weapons should be treated as light for finesse weapon feat to work also? Cause then I see lot of potental for dual weilidng certain weapons.

Nope. You're confusing things there Medium weapons would be treated as small weapons. "Light weapons" is a specific group, not a size classification

Bah, all wrong, monkey grip allows you to weild an oversized two handed weapon, or an oversized one handed weapon in your main hand.

Subtle difference, its mainly based on 3.5 weapon sizes, therefor a small character such as a gnome has a small longsword, 1d6 damage, if the gnome wanted to use a medium longsword, he would use in in two hands and suffer a -2 penalty to hit. Monkey grip would allow him to use it in 1 hand, with the -2 penalty to hit. Monkey grip would also allow him to use a human greatsword.

However, you can never finesse an oversized weapon. Nor can you weild an oversized weapon in your offhand, just think about it and be realistic. Lets say you have two... Poleaxes... You're gonna swing two 10 foot poles around, one in each hand?

Also, for those who think using monkey grip will add damage, by allowing you to use a larger weapon, you are wrong, it never compares to good ol power attack. Those of you who use it for style, good job, keep it up! For those of you who care little about style, heres some mechanics for ya.

Bastardsword 1 handed, 1d10, 1 feat required, avg damage 5.5
Greatsword 1 handed, 2d6, 1 feat required, avg damage 7 -2 to hit
Power attack bastard sword, 2 feat required, avg damage 8.5, -3 to hit

And for you thinking that dual weilding greatsword will help you more than just improved power attack... Remember that thats -6 to hit for +12 damage, instead of -6 to hit for 2d6 damage.

And yes, I fully realize that NWN 2 allows Monkey grip to work with your offhand, though, its just... Ridiculous.

Thread been thrown way off, so in order to get it back on topic, you want a good exotic martial dual weild? Dwarven Waraxe and Shortsword, just looks cool, more fun dual weilding, Rapier and dagger. If accuracy is less important, Bastardsword and Dwarven waraxe pair also looks cool... Now heres the fun part, Get enough strength to hit something, and enough dex for 7 attacks... Without minmaxing.

It does let you handle a giant weapon as two handed... That's why I'm drooling over an area with giants so I can swipe a giant sized axe or club or something just ungainly and nasty lol...

As for not seeing the point of a shield? Well, he took a few levels of fighter after some roleplay with 'Vee-shar' who taught him to weild the large weapons with one hand... 'Vee-shar' taught him some standardized fighter techniques of balance and control which were against his barbaric development, so, to reflect this, I took a few levels of fighter which allows for the shield... This RP will continue with his tutor until the tutor deems that Fubar has been taught all he can teach him. *shrug* Not to mention, I have other plans for my feats that don't include weapon focus but could include that later on if my plans change...
