  • Problems with NWN2 for Obsidian

The purpose of this thread is to provide clear, concise information regarding several bugs in NWN2 which seriously affect gameplay and the user experience.

Stay on topic and keep in mind this is NOT A THREAD FOR RANTS about the game.

Issue #1: When pressing the M button for the map since MotB, every so often it will result in a freeze followed by a crash.

Issue #2: Since MotB, when playing the game it will now sometimes randomly freeze and crash right while in the middle of an area, not doing anything.

Issue #3: Some spots in the game such as Port Avanthyr have red tiling which almost looks like a trigger in the ground, even though nothing is there in the toolset.

Issue #4: On Vista (possibly only 64 bit) the console for NWN2 is garbled unless on the main screen. Furthermore every so often while typing in player chat the console will pop up without any provocation and the text will begin typing in it. The console cannot be closed with the tilde ~ and nothing else can be clicked or interacted with regardless of the fact that the game is still playing smoothly and you can see other players talking.

If anyone else has any serious NWN2 related issues, post here and I will add it to the list. Be as detailed as you can and try not to make any assumptions. Please attach a copy of your DXDiag to your post.

To get your DXDiag you can go to Start -> Run and type in "DXDiag" (without the quotes) and press enter. A window will appear, after loading all your system information you can click "Save all information" and choose a location to store the text file. You may then attach it to your post.

Don't post about your issue unless you supply this otherwise the info is rather useless to us.

Issue 1) Frequent transition crash. Always after the first stage of area load. Occasionlly can hear the ambient sounds of the area.

Issue 2) Port Avanthyr: Tiling issue plus also occasionally has no texture on floor or on map or minimap and floor is blue.

Issue 3) Game always crashes if you exit straight from a module. Have to go Main Menu -> exit.

Issue 4) Minor issue but any key bound to opening the playerlist doesnt work.

      1. Sneak attacks not firing correctly on a consistent basis, detailed on thread on Bioware forums here: http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums...0741&forum=109

      2. Stealth and invisibility issues still unresolved, though I hear there are to be addressed finally in 1.11 patch, but addressed on this BW thread: http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums...4850&forum=109

      3. DR for certain types does not work. Example would be the archers belt sold by the ranger ooutpost merchant - it's supposed to provide 5/- piercing resistance, but doesn't work at all.

I've already submitted bug reports through normal dev process, but thought these were some additional bugs worth including if you're so inclined...

I'm a new player to Sundren, but this happens to me 80% of the time.
        Any way to fix this?

If only it were that simple, trust me we all wish there was a way to fix it. Obsidian specifically said patch 1.12 will address these issues.

Improved Mage Armour seems to last for 1 minute/lvl rather than 1 hour/lvl like it says int he spell description.

Also, sometimes when you right click on someone's name in the chat box and click "Tell [character name]" to send them a tell, the tell will be set up with a space between the character's name and the speech marks that stops the server from recognising the name unless you delete it.

#1 - Recieve a Tell while trasitioning always crashes the client.

#2 - Ditto- DR for certain types does not work. Example would be the archers belt sold by the ranger ooutpost merchant - it's supposed to provide 5/- piercing resistance, but doesn't work at all. Seems the DR fires after the damage is applied.

For you 'Archer's Belt' people, the piercing resistance is only good against piercing type attacks. It is not Damage Reduction in any form, but rather Resistance: Piercing. 'Swordsman's Belt's resist slashing, and Brawler's Belts resist blunt. They work correctly as designed. They also stack with Damage Reduction, such as Stoneskin, as it is not the same.

Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

No they don't. Facing goblin archers you take exactly the same damage as with out the belt. Unless they normally do 13+ damage with out crits?

#3 - Transitioning while Polymorphed crashes the client about 50% of the time. Crash to Desktop.

Archers belt works fine for me.

What annoys me is the bard spell level bug. ARRGH.
It takes the cha bonus instead of cha-10 for the max lev.
