  • Question for More Savvy Magic People

What are the visual effects associated with Quicken Spell? Does it instantly cast a spell with no words/gestures etc? Or is the only way to get completely 'invisible' spells to be to take both Still and Silent spell?

*Edit* Gah, this is probably the wrong forum for this. Should have put it in General NWN Discussion, sorry.

I don't know if I just never figured it out, and I was also never that big on PnP DnD.. mostly because of rolling the dice.. sucked all the fun out of PnP.

Alright you want to do this... roll the dice... that.. roll the dice... this happens.. roll the dice... I don't mind the mechanics in the game of randomness, I just hated stopping every few minutes to roll the bloody dice. Thats why I love NWN but anyway getting off topic.

I took the Still spell feat and the silent spell feat in NWN1 now maybe I was just doing it wrong, but I was very disappointed to discover that I could only use Silent or Still and not combine the two. And yes I think quicken spells just quicken them, it doesn't bypass the hand motions and noise of verbals.

I could be wrong.. but..that wouldn't be new.

That's a shame. After watching a certain someone do a fight with HIPS and seeing how awesome it looks, I was hoping there was a way a magically inclined person could achieve similar without having to take a Dodge-Mobility-Shadowdancer (both because of being feat-starved already and already have 3 classes with a preferred 4th that isn't SD.). <.<

(and yes, I know that invisibility spells/hiding doesn't work atm, though I'd hope it'd be fixed by then)

Quicken spell is basically being able to cast a spell without any 'wind up'. If you played WoW think of it as an instant cast spell. It also doesn't count against your 'attack round', therefore you can do a quick spell and then right after it casts you cast another spell. So basically, you can do two spell casts per round with quick spell.

Off the top of my head, it has no special graphics and I believe it just appears as a normal spell cast, except it's... quicker.

As for a wanna-be HIPS, a quicken cast of invisibility would be equalivant to disappearing on command. Only problem is quicken spell is four ranks above your max casting level. So it's usefulness is usually only in the extreme late game (unless you're an Arcane Scholar).

But if it still does the chant and animation, then it's not what I'm looking for, unfortunately.

Spell-casts ftl. Only option then is Quicken+ several of the epic still/silent feats, aside from the unlikely possibility of RP-gaining it.

          Thanks for the help.

I prefer the option from the DMG:

"With a flick of the wrist, and a single word of power..."

Its all in the wrist boys!
*cough* Anyways. Quicken spell requires only a small effort, but is not silent, or stilled, in any way. To truly not have to say anything or move you need three feats: Silent Spell, Still Spell, Eschew Materials. (for PnP at least)

Everyone forgets the material components, tsk tsk.

Yeah... Quicken does make the spell so fast its hard to notice, but it is noticable, especially if you watch them cast.

Due to the NWN2 game engine, there is no way to cast a spell without either visual or auditory effects.

Unless there is a DM right there next to you and you "cast the spell" (which the DM would do). That's the only way I can think of doing it.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to change the spell effect for Hellball back to the old effect from nwn1? the nwn1 version looked about a million times better than the nwn2 incarnation to me.

                    Not possible.
