  • NWN2 failed installation: Some help please!!!

Well, I tried and retried to install NWN2 again (I had removed it in one of those sudden "damn-I-need-to-focus-on-work" moments)... and now it acts like the files on the cd has somehow gotten currupted.

Does anyone recognize this? Have a fix for it? I would be ever so grateful, don't want to spend more money on rebuying the same thing again (it wasn't cheap to begin with, ye know). Pretty please!!!

    It breaks down like this:

    1. I had it installed and it worked before on this very puter, no major changes has been done since on the system.

    2. I run XP home, all very legally bought. Got recent (if not the latest) drivers for my graphics card and sound card).
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra
Sound card: Creative SB Live (soundblaster, a bit old, but working)

    3. I did search the register (regedit) several times and threw out everything that seemed related to NWN2 (there was a lot). Some other files were "found" during the search, but since they didn't seem to be NWN2 specific in nature I let them be.

    Any ideas?

(Bloody typical when I finally get time to play some)

Can you post the exact error message?

    PrintScreen+Paint+Imageshack.com is an awesome method.

I just read your post on the Bioware forums.

Did you back up and delete the NWN folder from your 'My Documents?' I got some simillar 'file does not match' errors when I reinstalled, and taking the folder out fixed it for me.

I do seem to remember reading in the self help forums (couldn't find the posts when I looked just now, though) that some people were encountering problems reinstalling because of artifacts in the registry from old installations. Possible culprit?

This is the latest example of the kind of error message I get while trying to install. It has happened several times, and always with a different file...

"CRC error: C:\Program\Atari\ Neverwinter nights 2\NWN2Toolset\Plugins\ fr\NWN2de48.rra doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor."

There's then an option to try again, cancel or ignore - try again gives the same message, ignore makes the installation continue for a while, then either a new similar error occurs, or the application tells me there's an irrepairable error and shuts down.

        ---------------------------------------
Also, I have removed all NWN-files I can find, both in the registry and on the hard drive. I'm starting to get that reformat feeling... which is a pain since I run a lot of work-related software that will be needing reinstallment and reconfiguring (about a days worth of work just to get back to square 1).

        It's very strange

I appreciate you guys trying to help. Any ideas are most welcome!
