  • A useful link

Found this guy's site by following a signature link on the bioware forums:

    http://www.tweakguides.com/NWN2_1.html

There's a range of guides on there for a number of games (NWN2 included, which is the specific link I've provided) but also on general PC tweaking, optimisation, graphics card optimisation etc.

The tweakguide for the game contains info that is pretty much in the manual, but it's nice and logically laid out, and it gives good, quantitative comments on, for instance, which of the graphics settings are more likely to improve fps, and by how much etc.

The guides for PC optimisation and graphics card optimisation though have a lot of good stuff in.....if you are already a PC god (or Godbeast, perhaps) you'll probably scoff at them, but if you're a bit of a techno-muppet (takes a bow himself) then there's a fair amount in them that's useful...and they're free, which is always nice.

There's all the usual stuff about how to overclock, but more usefully (for me at least) there's a lot of information about all the weird and wonderful things windows is doing in the background, and all the things you can turn off to make life a bit easier, and your PC a bit quicker and more stable.

Anyway, thought I'd post the link up....as a really simple example of what's in there, I cut the startup time for NWN 2 pretty much in half by disabling the intro movies and making a desktop link to the .exe file instead of the loader...if you read this and go 'doh! y'mean the idiot didn't know how to do that already?' then you can probably safely ignore this, but if you're sick of madly mouse clicking your way through the whole Atari/nVidia/obsidian start screen then it's worth having a look.
