The dwarven defender is a sponsored champion of a dwarven cause, a dwarf aristocrat, a dwarven deity, or the dwarven way of life. As the name might imply, this character is a skilled combatant trained in the arts of defense. A line of dwarven defenders is a far better defense than a 10-foot-thick wall of stones, and much more dangerous. Most Dwarven defenders are fighters, paladins, rangers, or clerics, although ex-barbarians, sorcerers, wizards, and druids can certainly all benefit from the defensive capabilities of this prestige class. Rogues, bards, and monks usually depend too heavily on mobility to use the abilities of the dwarven defender class to their fullest.

The path of the dwarven defender' or dwarven hero is a highly trained and specialized fighter tradition that is available to the dwarven race. These individuals take pride from the noble history of their race and its constant vigilance against exterior threats such as giants or goblinoids, which they hope to match in spirit as well as form.
My Take:
Since Dwarven Defender was the exclusive PrC implimented in NWN2 for Dwarves it has become more stereotypical for a Dwarf to be a DD than it is for the Dwarf to be the kick ass agressive fighter.
DD's are in the fictional actuality of the FR the elite gaurdians of the Dwarven race. However without alternatives there isn't really anything better to choose.
I do not really have much to say on this one, feel free to add to it, also I'm interested on what you all think of how a LE DD should be portrayed.
