  • PrC Review: Combat Medic

Sundren Definition: "On the front lines of battle, injury is inevitable. Where the carnage is at its worst, the combat medic can be found, keeping her allies alive and tending to the fallen. For a combat medic, the goal is not to kill the enemy but to make sure the enemy does not kill her troops. Her ability to keep forces fighting makes her invaluable to an army. She is entrusted with the care of the best forces available, sometimes even assigned to elite strike teams."

    MY VIEW

This class has RP value, don't get me wrong, but basically it is a way to make your cleric slightly worse mechanically.

You can definitly RP the heal skill to your hearts content though.

One of my RL friends had a combat medic. They are AWESOME mechanically, they just have to be in a group.

For RP, no they don't seem to be any different than a cleric, but seriously, in a group it's like night and day.

True that! I can't complain at all about their use in a group, it is one of the best support PrC's available in my opinion.

Darcy was probably the most useful character in the group of myself, my roomate, tamha and xalbrus back in the day.

I'm aware this is more of a mechanical issue, but there's a discrepancy between the wiki and ingame: Wiki says you need dodge, but ingame it says Augmented Healing. Which it is?

I would like to add a warning to those playing combat medic: Your sanctuary healing kicker affects the combat medic, and if you have a good enough wisdom bonus, the DC can get fairly high, even for a cleric. I've had two occasions with Torgar as a combat medic where I've healed a person, and the enemy made their will saves and I didn't, and I couldn't heal him again in time to save him, because it wouldn't let me target him. Just a warning, over all, I love the class.
Tigen Amastacia: Died in events so you didn't have to.

Thanks for the compliment! I really enjoyed playing with you guys back then.

I have to admit, I never had this problem. Then again as an FS/CM Darcy had a much higher Cha than Wis, so I don't know if that made a difference?

I LOVED playing this class, but my favorite part of playing a healer character has always been with a party. If you love to play with others as a healing class, this is an awesome PrC.

They used to be better when we had healing kits. Bandages make the heal skill very situational imo.

As a player of several characters with high heal scores, I can assure you that the heal skill is A) called on by DM's during events and B) makes bandages work much better. That is all.

                  How much better?

I've noticed with the worst bandages, the amount healed per tick increased from 1 to 2 when I had a total modifier of 10. No idea about when the wound closes.

But yes, it does make them work better and is an AMAZING tool for fighter-types.

I think the tick increases based on every ten ranks, and the frequency. The end bonus increases as well.

Amount a bandage heals increases by 1 for every 10 points in heal. Frequency doesn't increase, but duration does. Still haven't figured out how the last healing surge works. Supposedly it's based on the recipient's CON score, but it hits all over the place.

Regardless, I think this is perhaps the best PrC added to Sundren. If I ever played a divine caster, you can bet your ass it'd be this class.

                          I can agree with that.

                            Still needs an ubercharge ability.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
