Next those who rely on melee weapons will fare better than those who favor missile weapons such as bows. This last statement is in part due to the fact that there are NO missile weapon munitions to equal the enchantments cast on melee weapons and available to melee weapons ONLY!

So, I beg to differ with the contention that Sundren supports group role-play or group hunting. There are many areas that the staff feels is a group area, and I do not see it. I see areas where those who choose things like the cleric class not only can hunt them at their own pace and alone, and do so quite often. Quite simply if it was not for the spiraling down experience points, we would have clerics, wizards, and other major spell-casters at level that would dwarf those who choose not to play those classes.
I believe the item makers are going to be working on some ranged magic weapons, so don't worry! That being said, part of the reason missile weapons suck so badly is because Obsidian implemented them wrong, I believe.

As far as spell casters go... they have a very easy time at high levels, but A) mostly when solo only (when in groups at high level, they have to hold back so much in order to not kill their party), and B) have to spend 10 levels being completely worthless (which, on Sundren, is fairly long time).

That being said, there is a surprising lack of spellcasters on the server (which is very, very nice). Beyond Hlaine, Sylloven, and myself, the amount of pure arcane casters at high level is rare (there's a spattering low levels, and a fair amount of Eldritch Knights that tend to only use swords anyway, but only 3-ish high level pure arcane casters). As far as clerics go, they were the FotM, but due to GBX's warning about cleric deity requirements I think people are not going to be as likely to pick one now.

This is also a good point... Once spellcasters hit level 10ish, they do indeed become frighteningly powerful (and with the right combination of spells can manage pretty much anything available). But as Myr said, it's in the nature of the classes, it's difficult to see how the encounters could be changed to take account of high level spellcasters without making them even worse for eberyone else (except maybe through heavier use of dispels by enemies!).

As GBX said today: The rumors of 'DM beat down' regarding doing the Necropolis is a load of rubbish.

I'd say 3-4 runs spread out throughout one day is just fine. More than that would be boring.

Gene can solo Necropolis, has been able since level 5. But I keep being told that we can't do that for risk of DM beat down. So I've made a couple of runs a week.

Goblins have better stats than Gene and kick her tush.

Level 8 was a very annoying level for me. I just hung on to Vrog and Garius in Stonegarb caves and Necropolis to get me past 8 and up to 10/11, at which point mages become capable of soloing faster than grouping.

    Mosscap? ^^

Anyways, why is it so hard for your char..? your decent level now. Can't you just find other level 8's?

when your in a party of 4 or 5 players who know what they are doing, We've taken on impossibles with some real work. It's finding the players to group with that can be a real challenge sometimes. IE people that round out your party and can work as a team.

Partying is the key! I seem to remember we kicked some serious Orc and Bandit ass, and the xp didn't suck at all!

Things seem fine the way they are. Things should be tricky and make you think about making the best use of your class in trying to survive.

I also think it sets the tone for the server, ie its not a heroes paradise where you can around solo, slicing through inept monsters all day long.

You'll probably be about a high enough level to take one crit at full life from the seven to five orcs that will be rolling for their auto 20 crits. Thats the only place I think is rather hard for the level you can really fight them for xp.

Its often even a very proficient meat shield will find himself at 80% life and then a random two crits from orcs with battleaxes will send his screen to the Forest of Eternal night as the rest of his less armored crew joins him in the next few moments.
I've died here from similar circumstances, but usually as a result of supporting my front line party members. As far as the grim axe goes, dont go there with your party if you all cant work together. We had a party of level 4s and 5s go through there, Was not easy but quite doable.
