Don't get me wrong, cmosier, I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to not being able to play much due to RL such and such, but.. the first thought I had when I read that was.. "Isn't that our problem, and not theirs?" I wouldn't expect anyone else, regardless of being part of my faction or not, to tailor their play time around me simply because I can't log in at opportune times. Isn't that what the forum is for? (If I'm understanding you correctly?)

I try my best to stay involved, coming up with interesting little schemes and ideas that can influence things for my faction rather than concerning myself over individual reputation points. The points are just a number. The respect, friendship, and willingness to be involved in each other's plots of your fellow players beat out any quantitized digit any day.

There's a big air of "Everyone should be treated equally" which I can agree with to a degree, but what about the people who go out of their way to BECOME favorites in a faction of players, shouldn't they get rewarded and earn it more than someone who sticks to the shadows and doesn't seem like he's doing much for the faction?

All, in all, the only thing I don't want is the time involved to be meaningless. Rep was very-much meant to be an end-game goal, something to strive for beyond reaching level 20.
It's not necessarily a bad thing and your points are valid. It's going to take a damn good player to understand a few things though. They have to try and make time for Characters who can't be on that much due to real life reasons.

I do this with Laurana, she's not on that much (probably because the player has shit to do) and when she is, she'll get Rep. Her character is gruff but her loyalty to Byrun and the Blackwood are incredible.

So, I suppose what I'm saying is, in and of itself, it's not a bad thing. Now that I think of it, PCs can actually fix this problem themselves by leaving the Faction. Sometimes that's a real shitty option, though.

Apologize for truncating your post, but I believe we are saying the same thing. Everyone should be treated fairly... not equally.

Some players work harder than others in their respective factions... if all things were equal then their hard work would be the same as the least known and capable faction member. I say its only fair to reward those who go above and beyond for their faction. Fairness above equality... IMO.

    Cheers!

You bring up a really good point here, I tossed a +1 to your reputation for the thought.

I try to relate the idea to real-world concepts. I've always thought of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, or that of Syria.

Would the population of Israel hate your guts for helping their enemy? Probably, especially if you were handing their enemy weapons and whatnot. Would they hate you just as much if you sent in a relief effort to help the disparaged civilians from all the fighting? A rough question to ask, but I'd like to think that the emotional response would be much less dramatic/belligerent than, say, giving Iraq/Saudi Arabia a handful of RPG's and telling them to use it on their Jewish neighbors.

Datton will defend your town. Just let me know which one to take first.
But seriously, this is it. Sundren has become more of a frontier, and the people of the valley would inherently be willing to go where they are the most safe (a human compulsion), even if it means to adapt to the new rulers/laws. While some will leave b/c they disagree with the ruling faction, a majority will adapt for survival.

Only reason I can say you deserve more then 100 rep per banner is that you write up the RP in a post and put it on the forums, after having all parties involved agree, and then ask a DM (a general DM or higher) if that qualifies for additional rep. If the post is compelling enough then you may get the extra rep, or if its not.....then the worst is you don't get the additional rep.

This is a place for RP and they do encourage RP posting.

For the record, I dislike banner rewards as an actual RP tool ((ie: Let's go grab the banner and head out)). I prefer to RP it as a bounty or just collecting proof you were there for your faction.

Back On Topic: I kind of agree. A small boost would still be nice. But 100, 500, or 1000... Just seems like way too much.

I realize my understanding isn't perfect, but it seems to be that the mechanical aspect of Reputation does and should trump its storytelling side.
Reputation is the only way for players to access some of the best and most specialized gear in the entire game. Giving a mechanical advantage to roleplayers who are good at representing their faction seems unreasonable, so it seems to me that having banner rewards be the higher value is the best way.

I've had some time to mull it over. I really don't see giant rep boosts by PCs as practical. PCs are more likely to play "favorites" in my opinion. I'll still stand by my original idea. More Vouches. :-)

Here's a thought. Is it possible to use the "Commoner" faction as a general indicator of your popularity among Sundren's populace? This would be something outside the "faction" score and more like a general reputation like Baldur's Gate had. Those with exceptionally high scores might be viewed as heroic to the public, and even be recognised on sight by many people. A gallant knight who is worshiped for saving the realm. A famous bard who people travel far and wide to hear performances from, that sort. Likewise, a low score could be infamy or shame.
