*A letter is sent to the Exarch Keep, via a messenger who was paid by a masked man. There is no name upon the front or back of the envelope, but the handwriting is fairly intricate and the ink high quality. In contrast, the parchment itself is somewhat rough and low-grade. A steady and deliberate hand clearly went into each sentence. The more observant individual would likely be able to determine that such is the case due to the letter's author wishing to utilize a handwriting style unlike his or her typical manner.*
To whomever this letter reaches I bid you greetings.
Lately I have heard some rather disturbing rumors. Rumors that you yourself have probably had your fill of as well, describing snake-like creatures attacking structures and innocent people. After studying a collection of specific accounts from very creditable and reliable witnesses, I have come to believe these snake-like beings are of the race known as yuan-ti.
At this point, I cannot be certain, however I believe it is truly in your best interest and in the interests of Sestra that you are cautious with your dealings with the lizardmen of the Slitherscale Tribe. Rest assured, it is not the intention of the author of this letter to have a guilty look cast upon the Slitherscale. However, some rumors have pointed to the yuan-ti being seen either within or near the territories of the lizardmen and it was to Sestra that the snake-like creatures that attacked the Exigo were said to retreat.
In regards to the yuan-ti, I can tell you that my studies have revealed a great deal. They are said to be an ancient race, perhaps even older than the elves themselves. To the eyes of many, they give off a rather savage appearance, but are rather intelligent and cunning. Their breeds vary in appearance. Some walk upon two legs, some possess the lower body or the head of a snake. And there are some who wear a face that can easily pass as a human's. One thing the breeds all have in common is the deeply rooted instinct to perpetuate their race and serve a brutal and despotic deity. They possess skilled infiltrators, powerful users of the arcane, and mighty zealots wielding the fury of their dark god. They typically inhabit the southern Faerun lands, but have been seen up here in the northern lands on numerous occasions and are quite quick to adapt. To them, the other races are either food, slaves, or guinea pigs to foul experiments. They are not to be trusted and any dealings with them are destined to bring about one's own ruin and betrayal.
You have been warned. Do what must be done for the safety of Sestra and all who call this valley home.
