Ave,
I have safely arrived to the land of Sundren and I can relate my first experiences to you. First of all, it is a land of great tolerance, the tales of northern drow ranger must have trickled south and made the populace of this fair land quite open to all manner of beings normally regarded with outright hostility. However it is also a land of danger, where orcs and other foul beings lurk in the forests ready to plunge the lands into chaos. But to be as throrough and punctual as you tried to instill into me I suppose I should start with a more methodical approach. Hence I will first present the current races.
Humans:
~ The majority of the populace is human and very varied in origin. I have seen southern humans all the way from Calimshan and I have witnessed people from as far as Thay. Yes, Thay master, the vile nations reach is felt all the way here. Their recent way to use trade to bolster their coffers for whatever nefarious purposes is succeeding even in here, as a Thayan enclave was recently built in the capital. The most recent news of this abode of vileness is however that it has mysteriously been burnt, and the Wizard Aznar seems to have perished in the flames. But I wager we have not seen the last of their ilk. Other notable figure I should mention is the Knight Commander Kai he leads an order called the Vigilant Eye and true to the symbolism of the name of the organization, sir Kai is a helmite. I have managed to come to friendly terms with the man and he is suprisingly openminded for a helmite.
Elves:
~ The other major population in the lands consists of elves. There are more elves here than most places in Faerun. Some have even arrived recently from Evermeet. The Evermeet elves and the local elves are divided into two camps and their opinions differ in some points. The local elves also used to be fairly open and friendly, but recently their behaviour has turned to less than friendly. I contribute this to the fact that one of the leader figures a man called Corwin has seemingly disappeared and in his stead many listen to a woman called Maia who is quite adamant in her calling to keep her race safe. Some of her stooges are quite unfriendly.
Hin, Gnomes and Dwarves:
~The small folk are not well represented at all in the lands and they are few and far between. Dwarves in particularly are suprisingly very rare. One would speculate that the proximity to the mountains would draw more of them here but so far this has not been the case.
Half-Orcs:
~ Some half orcs populate the lands but their numbers are not that many. As typical, some in their number are more savage than others.
Drow and other:
~ Drow are fairly common in the lands. At first they were grudginly allowed to enter cities and trade but recently they have attacked caravans and other folk and some strict measures have been put to place. One should also note that thieflings are also represented as are a few aasimar. Why they would congregate here is beyond my knowing.
I will write of my travels in the next letter and some other happenstances.
Until then,
Drago
