(( this happened in-game under DM supervision ))

Qybox and Occulus had just finished a spell-swapping session. They came across a powerful mage from the Hand of Mundus in the bar... but oddly, this story is not about what transpired with the archmage.

A woman and man started to scuffle. They were a married couple and carried on as drunk, disfunctional couples do. The woman's tone rose, and the man became angry. He insulted her; she took a bottle to his head, cracking his skull and rendering him unconscious.

Qybox stared amazed at such violence. The woman kicked the unconscious man over and over. He smirked inwardly, seeing an opportunity.

He approached the woman. "Madam," he said, "if you do not cease, I will alert the, ahem, authorities. He requires attention."

The man bled on the floor from a gash in his head, yet the woman told Qybox to stay away.

He persisted. "Madam, ahem... you will be carted off to jail undoubtedly. Please, let me tend his wound, and I will be on my way, with thanks."

She did not relinquish. Instead, she neared Qybox and threatened to kick his head in.

Qybox staggered back. He cleared his throat, calming himself after being caught by surprise at her aggression. Slowly, he turned away, taking a few steps. Then, he reached into his bag and took out a scroll. Turning back slowly again to face the woman, he recited the words.

The woman's scorn turned to smile. "Please madam. Have a seat. This will, ahem, not take long," said Qybox. As if in a daze, she sat at the table and watched him work.

Quickly, Qybox unfirled a bandage. He took a vial of liquid from his medicine bag. "Numbing agent," he explained. In truth, the liquid was blood from a diseased troll in Viradale, extracted and handled with the expertise of his alchemist studies. Carefully he doused the bandaging that he had applied to the man's head.

"There," he said with a pleasant smile. "Good day to you madam." Quickly, he strode out of the bar with Occulus in tow.

"With apologies, it was necessary," apologized Qybox to Occulus. Necessary not to save the man's life, but to study the disease. If the pompus clergy of Helm would not release the "cure" for study, he would take any means needed to develop one on his own.

He carefully thought out plans to return and study the man's "development" over the next week.
