Cadmus walked through the hills of the Viridale Forest when he heard a familair voice bellow out across the rise near the Mossclaw border. The sound of that voice brought back a flood of painful memories, nearly overwhelming him with grief and sadness. Trudging slowly up the hills Cadmus' began preparing his spells for the coming battle. It was not his desire to face his old friend in combat, but Dagorn had made his choice, and in doing so had nearly killed Cadmus and his companions with his treachery.
A young Dwarven warrior stood beside Dagorn, Cadmus did not recognize the man, but he feared that dagorn's influence would corrupt another as it had done so many times in the past. Upon reaching the crest of the hill Dagorn flashed a wicked grin and smiled at his old friend's approach. "Ah cousin, how do ye be now." his voice thick with sarcasm. Cadmus winced at the words, but held his temper in check hoping not to involve the Warrior standing at dagorn's side.
Cadmus walked forward nodding in acknowledgment to the acidic words. "I think ye do be knowing the answer to that question old friend." "The time has come to answer for yer transgressions." Dagorn merely smiled as he adjusted his armor and stretched the weariness of the road from his back.
The young dwarven warrior at his side introduced himself as Fulkorn, but Cadmus was paying little attention to his words at that point. Cadmus looked to the man and shook his head "Be wary who ye do travel with lad, this one be a servant of Shar." Fulkorn cast his gaze over the Cleric and the Wizard attempting to determine the truth of the situation he had been thrust into.
Cadmus looked to Fulkorn and motioned up the hillside. "best ye be on ye way lad, this does not concern ye, and ye have no reason to come to harm here this night." Fulkorn hesitated for a brief moment before turning up the road. "I hope ye both do be settling this without bloodshed cousins." Dagorn merely laughed at the comment as Cadmus nodded his reply.
Cadmus looked to Dagorn with sorrow in his eyes. "Ye didn't have to betray me lad...there was another way." "Why did ye betray me old friend?' Dagorn smiled and faintly whispered his reply "I simply chose the winning side cousin, perhaps ye should have as well." Cadmus gritted his teeth and pointed his finger at the chest of the burly cleric. "This ends tonight old friend, rebuke the hold Shar has about ye, or you shall not leave this forest breathing on ye own." Dagorn laughed, a cold dark gutteral laugh. "ye think to test me Cadmus?" "Very well then...ye shall discover the true power of the Dark Mother."
Simultaneously Dagorn and Cadmus began casting spells of protection upon themselves, hoping to fend of the magics that would soon overwhelm them both. The air erupted with arcane power as Cadmus hurled a bolt of lightning towards his old friend, but Dagorn was too quick and quickly cast a dome of protection shall stopped the blast before it could connect. The air around Dagorn crackled with energy, but he walked forward unharmed and smiling. "Yell have to do better than that old friend...much better." As Dagorn walked forward he muttered a prayer to his Dark Goddess and his frame erupted with strength. With each step he took closer to Cadmus his frame grew and lengthened, until finally he was the size of an Ogre.
Cadmus quickly threw his hand in front of him and uttered the arcane words that would send forth a massive fist of pure magical energy to hold his foe at bay. The fist flared into existance striking dagorn in the chest and sending him reeling back. Cadmus took the oppurtunity to prepare a Fireburst and cast it about his person. The ground erupted in flames engulfing dagorn in its fiery tendrils, but Dagorn merely laughed and swung his axe at the fist slicing through its magics and disrupting the spell.
Dagorn reacted without hesitation, relying on the power of his protective magics to quickly close the gap between cadmus and himself. Cadmus swung his staff to ward off the priest, but it was too late. Dagorn merely defllected the blow with his shield and struck cadmus with the flat of his axe against the side of his exposed head. His concentration weakened Cadmus's protective spells collapsed as he fell to the ground. Dagorn howled with battlerage and threw aside his axe pouncing upon Cadmus and brutally beating him into submission with his gauntleted fists.
Dagorn stood up slowly, blood dripping from his armored fists. "Now you know the true power of the Dark Mother." "Do not cross me again cousin, or next time I shall finish my work." Dagorn then turned and walked southward down the hill leaving Cadmus nearly dead upon the ground.
In the distance Cadmus barely heard the sounds of someone calling out to him. His face was bruised and battered, and his eyes swollen shut from the many blows. A voice spoke to him with contempt. "You are weak wizard." "you deserve your fate." The figure then spit on the ground next to Cadmus and walked away leaving him where he lay.
