  • Order of the Dragon's Claw

Dragon's claw monk's are a secretive order, only very recently have let the world know of their presence. Many orders have built their styles of fighting around the movements of animals, the dragon's claw order, has predictably focused their movements and strikes around those of the dragon. Vicious open handed claw strikes, low sweeping "tail" like kicks, head butts, lunges, biting, joint specific dislocation. They have taken to making elbow, knee, shoulder, fore arm and shin guards out of dragon scale and make shift claws out of, well, old dragon's claws. They are covered in tribalesque tattoos depicting the shapes of dragons none are the same they are very personal to the particular warrior. They are scarred up tattooed, broken teethed fighters. Vicious in combat, like a dragon.

They've been in existence for roughly 300 years but the story of their tale goes back longer then that.

It all started with, and you may have already guessed, a Dragon, a big mean, scourge of humanity dragon.

He looted castles, fought powerful mages, paladins and warriors of all types. He swallowed entire villages like they never existed. He found a lair for himself secluded in a hidden valley, where the mountains kept it sealed in. The mountains also blocked out alot of the extreme winds and storms, well most of the unbearable weather infact.

Having a remote hideaway, he built a hoard so vast it could have bought a continent. But he began to grow weary, of his life and so took up a hobby. He began to observe humans, without tearing them apart. He learned the language, customs he saw them interact, fall in love, he saw sorrow and pain. Then he thought of thousands maybe tens of thousands he'd digested, and worse. It tore him apart, why care? he was superior in every way, but he could'nt shake these disgusting new thoughts. He worked his magics tirelessly until at last he had perfected a rather complex transmutation that would grant him the ability to take on the body of a man.

He lived amongst them, saw their struggles, worked alongside them, broke his back to bring in the harvests protect live stock from wolves, and he liked it.

He fell for the advances of a lovely young waitress, that worked in his local tavern. He grew very fond of her. He desired, as any man in love with a beautiful woman, to give her a kingdom, fortunately for him he had the means. It took him quite some time, but eventually he convinced enough people that he knew of a safe land where they could be free of many of their hardships, where they could have their own land and no one would try to take it from them. He led an expedition, long and hard, he led them through high mountain passes, severe wind and snow storms. Until they reached the outer edges of his sanctum, the mountain walls so sheer and tall, the morale of those making the trek was instantly destroyed.

The fear of freezing and starving to death soon gave way to the realization that standing infront of them was most obviously a very big, very mean looking dragon. But it spoke, It told them it was a friend, if they would have it, that it truly had brought them to a land they could call their own. They had little choice at this point but to trust the beast, and they were rewarded for it. He flew them over the rock wall, through the clouds, and they saw their new home, it was like a small piece of paradise in a frozen hell. with a glacial lake plenty of open space for cultivation. with the help of a dragon it took very little time , he flew in livestock grain, lumber and saplings. The unfarmed land grew vast quantities of food and with no direct threats to livestock their was always food. halls were carved out of the mountain sides and a palace was built for the dragon and his wife, who despite what you may think was quite in awe, that she married a dragon, it loved her and was'nt even planning on eating her. They were able to have children, ten infact.

As the children grew, nine of them began to show a strong ability for wielding the magics. The tenth, well there was something quite different about him, and the boy's father knew what it was, he could feel it and smell it, the blood in the boy had reacted quite differently then his other siblings. He had the dragon inside him. His father acted quickly, took the boy away to monastery of monks, the same monks that would become the order of the dragon's claw.

Even at this time they worshiped the dragon and its ferocity, that is why they were chosen for the child. Though they were never told about the child's geneology ie. father being a dragon.

They trained the boy from his first day, the beast in him was channeled into combat, and he excelled. As he aged he began to take on some physical characteristics of a dragon, and the monks were in awe, they near worshiped him, and when it came time for him to move on from the monastery, they followed.

They setup anew in the dragon's valley, they trained with the dragon and perfected their style of combat to a deadly art form. They tracked the bloodline of the dragon, carving it into the walls of the dragon's great hall.

The dragon's son became leader of the order. he wrote a doctrine, their purpose was to protect the villagers, continue to train any future children of the bloodline, that may carry the blood of the dragon and to keep the dragon's valley secret and safe.

With his son taking his throne the great beast spent all his time with his aged wife. Upon her passing he burrowed deep into his lair and went to sleep, he has lied dormant ever since.

That was roughly twenty generations passed, and their have been many more born to the line that have shared the abilities of their great ancestor, but for some reason, only one per generation. The eldest always sits in the throne of power and his younger cousins follow through the ranks by age, though usually fifteen or so years apart in age.

The order does not align itself with any particular deity its members are quite free to worship whomever, so long as it does not interfere with their duties.

They have been isolated from the rest of the world so long, and the valley has flourished so much, that the current leader of the order has decided to amend their doctrine and slowly establish their tiny nation on the world's stage. Their valley so remote and hidden and its defences so unbreachable. they have it is time to explore the rest of the world their ancestors had forgotten.
