    ((The following is the compilation of stories, journal entries, etc. of the Thayan House Malenthus, which includes those serving directly under the House.))

    Cold, dark, and lifeless. It was all the boy of fourteen years could remember. A giant, armored man held him firmly by the scruff of his neck and next to a flowing river. A few feet away stood a man in red robes, trimmed with black to symbolize his specialization in Necromancy. The deep bags under the man's eyes consumed his gaze, turning his gaze into one that could stop anyone dead in their tracks. He opened his mouth to speak.

    "Again."

    In an instant, the boy was forced headfirst into the river. Water rushed into his lungs as he struggled against the man holding him down. The screaming was useless and the struggling only made it more painful. Suddenly, a forceful yank backwards allowed the boy to take a large gulp of air. He gasped for air, clutching at the hand that held onto him firmly.

    "Start from the beginning. Where did you meet her?"

    The voice was colder than the water in which he had just been submerged. The boy coughed a few times to clear his lungs. He cringed his nose and gave a defiant look to the Red Wizard. The wizard waved his hand.

    "Again."

    Once more, the water surrounded him. This time, the boy did not struggle. He remained calm and collected. The realization hit him that this was the end. He reasoned that struggling would only prolong the torture. No, it was better to end it this way. After a moment his lungs began to sear with pain, yet all he could think about was her.

    As the darkness enveloped him, he remembered where they had met...
