  • Baculus' Experiment Logs

((Remember when reading this my overall DnD experience is limited- so um... while all of this likely is not possible in a strict DnD setting this gives an idea why Alexander has been away so long- and what happened to him. Baculus is not a sundren character yet, and for the most part the IC events are limited. This is designed to be an interesting read and not much more. I warn you now that this will be bloody- insane- and will detail a crazed Necromancer slowly picking apart his brother- trying new things- putting him back together again... a few times.

Oh, turns out necromancy is kinda like a VCR- you try a few buttons here, a few buttons there and hope it works out alright. +

    ~Set up and preparation~

Urgh, sometimes this crypt gives me chills- not in a good way for once. I found some mushrooms on one of my prime specimens I mean, c'mon. Blasted fungus is spreading- it is an attempt to undermine me by that pathetic Hagare... Damn undead wit' a noggin- Dunno how I went wrong with that.

Anyways it seems that my brother Alexander isn't being compliant as I had hoped, so I'm off to fetch him... I think he's having second thoughts about being a Blackguard. How is that possible?! Skeletons are just cool, and having a servant to do your bidding is so nice... Bah...

So I'm off to Sundren, looks like I'm gonna have to keep a low profile- I bet my brother is looking out for me. It'll be simple methinks, go in- grab my brother and come back... and after some much needed help I'm going to help him see the light! And if not, I'll make him a new pet! Boy I love being me... I'm so frickin' brilliant.

    ~Beginnings~

Sundren was a pain to get in to, it took a while- and you know the big foul smelling cloak wasn't as low key as I had hoped. I got a few odd looks here and there, but no one was foolish enough to dare stop me. Hehe... Hagar pulled off the peasant look quite well, and I didn't think those nailed on eyes would hold- but they did. I am just far to brilliant for a mishap like that. Well maybe it helped I stuck him in the caves with the other zombies- I think that helped cover the odor. Anyways... I found my brother out killing those gnolls- he seemed shocked as he saw me.

But course, a quick blast of eldritch blast and he was out like a light- I'm surprised he lived this long. Anyways, I drug him back home- strapped him to the table and began phase one- Refer to actual experiment notes for the specifics- I don't feel like listing them here again... Bah Hagar is acting up again- what an annoyance.

    ~Excerpt from Experiment 1~
Subject(Alexander) was unconscious when I began. I quickly strapped him to the table- since having your organs fiddled with makes someone quite squeamish. I began by cutting through cutting through his platemail's buckles with my enchanted dagger- and removed the front part of his armor. I'm surprised how well built he is, if it's one thing I do envy- it's his perfectly able body. Being a mage does have it's drawbacks I suppose...

I began with an incision below the ribcage, blood flowed out liberally- but that of course was just starters. Slowly I finished the cut to his hip. Running over it a few more times to make sure it was past the muscles, I began to rip open the incision. In a few moments I had most of his organs exposed. The bleeding was taken it's toll and the subjects skin began to become more pale.

You know many in my field argue what each of this squishie organs do- but after much experimenting on other subjects this dark red triangular organ seems to be rather important. In prior experiments it held what appeared to be toxins. I assume that's the nature of the organ- to hold in the toxins that the body needs to run. That's why I've used it as the focal point of prior experiments in reanimation with mixed results.

And so I began there, I started with an incision around the edge of it, cutting away the fatty and connective tissue(careful not to maim the long snaking organs). And with a smirk I carefully removed the organ and brought it over to my work station to finish up on.

I figure that if this organ has the toxins in it required to make the body run- that different toxins in the organ would have beneficial results on the subject. I began by slowly dissecting the organ into several easier to work with chunks. I began by stuffing into the first chunk other decomposing livers- hoping that the rotting flesh would help aid in his lust of rotting flesh. The next piece was inserted with a few herbs to help him become more receptive to my suggestions.
The last piece was stuffed with a bit of rat poison I was hoping this would create an ability to use this poison on other things without hauling a basket of the stuff around.

It took a while- but I stitched the organ back together and cast a minor flesh mending spell on it. After that I inscribed several dark runes on it- mostly for show and began with the task of putting it back into the subject. It took a while until I could get it back to the right shape to fit in his gut, and even longer still to force the flesh to retake it. By this time my brother was long dead from bloodloss... so I had to get a bit creative.

I had several living subjects still trapped down here, so I went to the first whom I've lovingly named Wiggles and brought him(with the aid of two of my favorite skeletal guards) to the table next to my brother's body. He looked rather fearful as I strapped him in place. Actually he looked even more fearful when I got out a bucket, knife, and a sponge. Course this fear was soon replaced with agony as I filleted his arm, and without much show I drained the blood into the bucket.

Quite alot of blood in the fat old man- but more the better. Regretfully it began to clot soon after it hit the bucket so I had to get a bit creative there too. I whisked it over a fire to beat out most of the clots, and using a fine cotton cloth I strained out the rest.

The fun part was about to begin, my favorite part you know... getting the blood back into the body! I had the idea of just feeding it to him, but I didn't think that would work real well. So instead I choose a rather large vein on the back of his hand and jabbed a hollow blade into it. Through this I hooked up the bucket of strained blood and decided to let the body sit over night.

I'll see how this worked out in the morning I suppose.
