  • Va?i: amiable, rabbit cradling artificer

Va?i has been apprentice to a gnomish artificer since, oh, six years ago. In the studios she was mastering the spectra of alchemical crafts, and was really doing quite well until that day. "Creativity is no crime", she exclaims in her defense, but the artificer and fellow students would have nothin' of her. Afterall, she did shatter the still, she did collapse the studio, and she did turned half the laboratory into thin smoke and all those gnomes scrambling. So Va?i packed up what little belongings she have in a makeshift rag-sack, and with Vogue (her faithful rabbit) in a warm pouch, turn to face the big, big world.

She has since been selling her service: one day she would be mordanting dyes for the tailor, another she'll be painting a sign for the tavern keeper (colors fascinates her). While Vogue's been fed rather well, Va?i's insatiable curiosity led her from town-to-town, seeking fresh adventures to bring her in touch with the magic she carries within, and craft artifacts that will one day rival the greatest in the realms (not to say better than the snobs that bossed her around!)

Unfortunately, her charms and innocence has been working against her in locating adventures. Just like a fortnight ago: a bearded man (in shining armor, no less) was speaking with his companions about some dark, secretive cult. Overhearing their conversation, Va?i (and Vogue) went up to them, in a grand gesture summoned a glowing ball, and curtsied before asking to join their quest. "We're going to a vampire nest, not a church picnic. So, no. You can't come with us." If only they know what else she could do, she thinks, as she absent-mindedly scratch Vogue's ear...

Having exhausted her artistic patrons, Va?i's been scrubbing tables and floors rather grudgingly ("It's unsightly for a Sunite!"). One night, after a drink or two she overheard some sailors and traders preparing to sail back to a "Port Avanthyr" ("When you have refined senses like mine, it's hard to not overhear everything.") With nothing to lose and everything to learn, Va?i approaches the crew asking for passage; this time she brought a pitcher instead of Vogue's pouch. That made all the difference in the world, and here our story begins.
