Tethalil leaned in, chin resting in his cupped hands, and gave a sigh.
"It's over," he murmmered to the few companions gathered around the table, "My life is over, my hopes and dreams crushed, dashed against the rocks of misfortune, never again to enjoy that which I enjoy most!"
Two of his companions, a human male and female looked at each other and grinned, the male turning to Tethalil, "Anyone could have messed up that spell. Magic is a dangerous thing to get caught up in, I've heard of lots of mages fizzling spells. I'm sure the innkeeper understands."
The female's grin widened, "Yea...and besides, his eyebrows will grow back, and he looks thinner bald, maybe he'll thank you for it."
They shared a laugh, slapping poor Tethalil on the back who just heaved another sigh.

"Sir, I am here to inform you that I am leaving the guard." Tethalil stood at attention, arms to his side, sword poised along his right leg, " I have saved up all the money that I need to hire a private toutor to help me learn the arts of the arcane."
His superior looked at him long and hard, scrutinizing him before speaking. "You....you're serious. You're going to go out there and waggle your fingers when you're damned fine with a blade, and dont know the first thing about magic."
"Sir, I have been reading on my own, and practicing on my own, I think I know enough about magic to start taking this seriously, and move on to the next step."
The guard captain chuckled to himself, "The other day, Hoarse fell over in pain, grasping his stomach, and you KNEW that someone had cast a spell on him. Someone was torturing him with magic. Ten seconds later, when Hoarse let loose a wind bigger than even Icewind Dale has seen, got back up, and resumed drinking, I think we saw how much you knew."
A frown formed on Tethalil's face, "Sir, my contract is up in two days, and it is my choice to leave. I am a Sun Elf, and my kind are masters of the arcane, and I too will be! In two days time, I set out for Luskan."
-------------------------------------------
Tethalil squinted his eyes, focusing his mind on the candle before him, drawing an arcane pattern in the air.
"Yes...thats good, exactly like that." His human toutor nodded his approval from behind, watching closely as Tethalil made the slightest wrong movement towards the end of his spell, the candle exploding hot wax in both of their faces.
"Im sorry!" Tethalil jumped from his seat and ran over to the human who was waving his hands wildly screaming "HOT HOT HOT!"
Wiping the wax off his instructors face he offered an apologetic grin and a disarming shrug, "I...almost got it that time!"
"No!" His instructor took the rag, finished wiping his face off, and incinerated it with a snap of his fingers. "I dont get paid enough for this, and you cant afford how much Id charge to endure anymore of it! You're on your own! You're hopeless, and Im not going to be responsible for the houses you burn down!" With that, he turned and stormed out there door.
"But!" Tethalil called after his masters back, but he did not turn back.

"I've decided Im leaving." Tethalil turned his eyes up from his cupped hand to see his companions reacations.
Both of them appeared startled, looking to him inquisitivly. "What? Leaving? You're one of the best swords we have! Not to mention your magic actually comes in handy!"
"yea...minor dweomers. light, flare, daze, woopty, look at me, im a powerful archmage!" Tethalil flailed his arms about like a crazy man.
The female sighed and looked him in the eye. "And just where will you go? No one will train you, after that incident in waterdeep...and the one in luskan....and the one in ten towns....and the one..."
"Alright, already!!" Tethalil tossed up his hands. " I know no one here will train me! But I know of someplace else...someplace new...someplace where no one has heard of the "starter of the great rabbit fire."
His two companions grinned at each other once more, "Oh yea? where's this place where the people have no ears?"
"Hardy har har. Its called Sundren. I hear its a quickly rising city-state who trades minerals with Miribar. THERE, I shall find a new instructor! THERE I shall finaly become a powerful mage!" Tethalil stood at the last part, drawing stares from everyone in the inn, followed by glances towards the bartender, followed by the usual laughter.
"They'll see...." He frowned and sat down in his chair, "They'll all see."
Tethalil leaned in, chin resting in his cupped hands, and gave a sigh.
