She felt the warmth rush over her, enough to make her draw a sharp breath inward and shiver with delight. Her vision blurred, and for a moment she closed her eyes. A familiar smell drifted into her nose, causing her head to become light and a smile to pull at her lips. The sensations threatened to overwhelm her with euphoria and cause her to lose herself. Something inside her screamed, called out for her to control herself, and for a moment she felt dizzy, nauseous.
Slowly she opened her eyes and through the haze looked out upon an alien landscape, broken, burnt, decaying. Signs of death surrounded her, from gnarled trees blackened almost to charcoal, to bodies of dead soldiers and civilians. The cries inside got louder and for a moment her muscles seized causing her to fall to her knees. She felt herself retch and double over, her hands barely catching her.
She lifted a hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead and as her hand brushed against her brow she felt the uncommon touch of her own scarred skin, as well as something sticky. She lowered her hand, blinking through her blurred vision to look it over. The red fluid clung to her hands as well as her arms, and as she straightened herself she followed one arm to her body, discovering it covered as well.
A tingling sensation raced through her and once again she shuddered with delight. She heard the familiar voice screaming again, not from inside, but as if someone were right next to her ear. She winced in pain and began to look around to try and discover the source, but to no avail. She closed her eyes and covered her ears, the scream scrambling her thoughts, the voice so familiar it tore into her mind until suddenly her eyes flew open with realization. The screams were coming from her.
