  • A Thinnly Veiled Threat?

The red wizard Enchan is seen leaving the Sundren Comfort. He is flanked by a knight on his left. A Thayan commoner, dressed poorly and carrying stacks of paper in a bundle, trails six feet behind to his right. The wizard looks dark and furious. He only makes it twenty feet out the door before another figure calls to him from the inn.

"Master Enchan, please," pleads the man. He is wearing fine clothes: blue silk laced with silver trim. He has a tone of near-desperation. "This is simply business. It need not ruin any arrangements we currently have."

Enchan stops in his tracks, but does not turn around. He pauses, thinking over his response carefully. His flanked associates wait by his side, though the commoner keeps a safe, respectful distance.

"I will forgive the insult that this contract was even offered up for public bidding. It is, of course, not personal. Business never is. But we will be examining our current 'relationship' with this nation, steward. It is unacceptable that our profits be affected by the awarding of this project. If they are, we will find other ways to compensate for our losses."

"You have our proposal," continues Enchan. "I trust you'll consider all angles in your judgement."

The wizard continues on his way without any further comment or even a glance to his associates. The servants trail behind him obediently, leaving the steward at the inn door looking very concerned.
