After receiving orders from Kilinar a pair of dwarves set out for Sestra. The pair moved at a steady pace, and with little interruption made it to the town and after wandering about the place and observing the re-construction, made their way to Corsair HQ. There weren’t many people about, but both of the Delvers understood that it would take some time for the residents to return.
It was when they drew closer to the Corsairs building that Durin began to grumble as he had for most of the trip. “Et’s a durned waste ov time showin these lads how teh swing an axe!” he exclaimed gruffly, looking to Thain for support on the matter. “They’re good folk for humes, and Kilinar has sumfin in mind by havin us teach em sum tactics.” Thain reassured Durin for the near fifth time on the subject. Durin only snorted in protest and hefted his great axe up onto his shoulder. Thain entered the HQ first, followed by the fiery haired Rustbeard who set his visage into one of brooding annoyance. It took nearly thirty minutes before the approximately fifteen corsairs were assembled and ready for drills.
Thain had them all exit the building and line up on the bridge, giving each of the soldiers a thorough looking over. “Allright then!” Thain barked in his deep powerful tones, making most of the soldiers snap to alertness. “We’ve been sent er’e to see that you lads get a bit of proper training!” Thain bellowed as he paced back and forth in front of the humans, standing near two feet shorter than most of the corsairs in his full plate armor. Durin stood at railing of the bridge on the opposite side observing Thains efforts while resting his heirloom axe’s head just in front of his armored boots, keeping his hands on the butt of the axes long handle. Thain continued to speak to the corsairs briefly before calling upon his memories of training back in his clanhold with the elders. Durin, who was brought up in a much larger dwarven city had more of a formal training as did every young dwarf in Adbar, but continued to remain silent, only observing Thain’s efforts until it came to sparring.
“Now we’ll demonstrate the Stone and Chain” Thain prompted Durin over with a wave of his hand, and then motioned for one of the Corsairs to take a defensive position. Durin unenthusiastically made his was to Thain’s side and grabbed up one of the wooden weapons nearbye so as not to harm the corsair. Durin’s helmet obscured his grin, but his eyes were clearly smiling devilishly as he patted the wooden rod on the palm of his open hand. The corsair unfortunately didn’t catch the look and stood ready in defense with his own wooden pole. The Dwarves made their way over to the end of the bridge so that they could have a clear run at the defensively poised man. “Ye ready lad!?” Thain hollered to the human. The corsair simply nodded and the dwarven wall of iron burst into motion and both Durin and Thain sprung to speed rather drastically.
As the pair reached the last six feet to the target Thain shouted “Stone!” and came to a quick hault directly in front of the corsair while Durin didn’t slow and ran right by. Thain put on a look of disbelief at his partners abandonment, but fought on swinging down with his wooden weapon only to be deflected by the corsair’s quick parry. The corsair grinned briefly as he figured the stubborn and obviously annoyed red haired dwarf had left Thain to his self. The corsair visibly tensed when he heard a bellow from behind “CHAIN!” A resounding BONG filled the air shortly after as Durin snapped his wooden weapon over the corsair’s armored head. Thain took that moment to also knock aside the corsair’s weapon and whack his own stick across the man’s armored belly.
Durin was laughing heartily “Bwahahaha, aye I think yer right Thain, Kilinar ad sum good reason in sendin us!” Thain shook his head as if to show his disfavor to Durin’s antics and helped up the stunned corsair. “Ye did good lad, now it’s your turn, pick a lad or two, and get yerself steady.” Thain offered politely. The corsair, eager to learn, nodded quickly and pointed to two others in line. The Three of them went to the end of the bridge and Thain pointed to Durin and said sarcastically “Go on now, get yerself out there, you’re to be the Ogre this time” Thain grinned at Durin, as he knew that from under that thick concealing helmet the dwarf was giving him that brooding look again .
