Back in 2006 , the robotic Cassini spacecraft which had been orbiting Saturn looked back from behind the planet at an eclipsed sun.
The night side of Saturn is seen to be partly lit by light reflected by its own majestic ring system. The rings appear dark when silhouetted against Saturn, but quite bright when viewed from away, slightly scattering sunlight, as seen in this exaggerated color image.
Saturn's rings light up so much that, although new rings were discovered, they are difficult to see in this image. Seen in spectacular detail is Saturn's 'E-Ring' - the ring created by the newly discovered ice fountains of the moon Enceladus and the outermost visible ring above.
Far in the distance, at the left (located near the 2nd outermost ring), is the almost ignorable pale blue dot of Earth.
Can you find it?
