I have just rolled my first charactors, but I would like a little help in "shaping them". Not regarding stats and numbers, but with deitys and thier effect to RP in particular. I know how/what I want them to be, history wise, so hopefully I can make a more RP choice. Again, my DnD and FR knowledge, is very limited, so I dont know names of cites etc.

Greetings, my name is Aeyen, Allow me to tell you a little about myself. My brother Marran and I grew up in the city of (_____), a fairly quiet upbringing no disasters, wars or scandals and for the most part, life was good. Father owned a small locksmith store in which we both spent large amounts of time in between studies. In addition to our schooling, we learnt about the workings of locks, and devices used for home-security, although there was little need for such things in a small village, and business was often slack. Marran's appauling sense of direction would give us all much amusement, getting lost in local fields even. These regular events would earn him the nick-name of Elsewhere, as he would often be somewere else (usually lost) which people would be use so often, its how he would be known. Whereas I loved the outdoors, to be able to roam freely with the wind and wildlife.
Once we had become old enough, Father sent us both off into the world to walk our own paths in the world. He thought that with locksmith skills, we would be far better suited to finding work or success in large cities, filled with nobles guarding large hoardes of personal wealth. Armed with some gold, knowledge and (hopefully) enough common sense to make the right choices in life, we ventured into the unknown adventure of life.....
(OOC)
This back-story has enabled me to play 2 charactors, brothers. Both (will?) set up a locksmiths in a busy city, together with some "home security" advice for the nobles. Marran will use his time to be a secuity specialist/guard for hire for a while, but strive for a higher purpose, and join the church to become a Paladin/DC using his trap skills to help infiltrate crypts. I will stay in the city, continue with the store but yearn for the open spaces and nature that city-life cannot satisfy, but be unsure of my direction, perhaps being swayed in lifes directions.
I will start both as Rogue, as it fits the story, but without putting points into pick-pocket as its against thier upbrining/principles. His skills are meant as an honest trade and consultant/specialist. Both are essentially lawful, and somewhere between good/neutral.
Now, as my DnD/RP knowledge is very limited, here come the questions/help. As I arrive in-game at level 1, I presume thats the point in their lives they should start at. But I need a little help when they level up. Normally in games, I would go Rog/RNG/Rog/RNG ending up 14/6 or so. But would the story/RP I have force me to put all 6 Rogue levels first, then all Ranger levels after?
Secondly, when I pick my first Ranger level, it will ask me for a deity, but essentially, still being a city-boy, the nature based deitys dont fit with his history. Secondly, does the weapon for the deity make any difference?
Thirdly, I want them to have a certain naevity about them, due to the remoteness of thier upbrining, but am uncertain how that would affect the Charisma score of a (future) Paladin.
Elsewhere seems easier to shape, although I have to roll him more of a Rogue/guard than a Paladin. I am not sure how to RP a paladin with a CHA of 10-12 though. Although once he has started down the Paladin path, its not one to "ping-pong" back and forth between classes so his direction is clearer. Both races have to be the same for RP reasons, which I can do.
I just want to avoid any blundering RP "mistakes" so hope asking this now, will avoid embarrasment in-game later.
Many thanks, as always.
